The competition is fierce. More and more German transport companies are declaring bankruptcy. They can't compete with Eastern European firms now that the European transport business is opening up.<br /><br />Eastern European firms often pay such low wages that their Western European counterparts can't keep pace. One Latvian trucking company even hires Philippine drivers, paying them just 680 euros a month to drive clear across the continent.
